What is the Bishop’s score?

why is it important?

The Bishop’s score is an estimate of how close labour is to starting, based on how far the baby has moved down into the pelvis and the progress of the changes in the cervix in preparation for labour to begin.

If the score is very low, it’s probably going to take longer for medical methods to work, and there is a higher chance that they won’t work at all.

If your score is high, it also means that there’s a good chance you will go into labour soon anyway, without the need for medical induction.

Midwives may not think to tell you what your score is, so you may need to ask for this information. You can find resources and more on our app !
